Yaxunah Service Trip
March 15, 2025 - March 22, 2025
The town of Yaxunah, Yucatán is located 12 miles from the Mayan Ruins of Chichén Itzá. North of the town of Yaxunah are its own archaeological ruins. The state of Yucatán is estimated to have around 10,000 cenotes. Cenotes (from the word “dzonot” in Mayan) are natural fresh water sink holes. In Yaxunah you will find the Cenote Lolhá (flower water).
Pastor Manuel and his wife, Julia Maria serve the church, The Divine Teacher, in the tradition of confraternidad. We are looking for a service team to help them with construction of its bathroom and reparation of its floor and ceiling. They are also hoping to add an overhanging roof to cover the area where they teach the children of the church. All construction activities are non-skilled and guided by a local professional.
Yaxunah is home of the Amazonas, a female softball team that competes (even internationally) in the traditional Mayan dresses called huipiles. Search the team name on YouTube to see footage of the team that recently garnered fame playing an exhibition game in the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Chase Field.
